The Official Met Gala Merch Might Be Even Weirder Than the Costumes

May 14, 2019 | Hannah Abrams

Last week, our Instagram and Twitter feeds were consumed with Met Gala Camp content. From Jared Leto’s fake head to Billy Porter’s Egyptian entrance to Lady Gaga’s four outfit changes, there was no shortage of, uh, head-turning ensembles. While every look was completely different from the last, one thing was for certain: It was all amazingly weird. And it looks like this year’s official Met Gala Camp merchandise is no different.

In support of the event and its accompanying exhibit, the Metropolitan Museum of Art reached out to 14 fashion labels, including Marc Jacobs and Moschino, for a line of merchandise that celebrates the theme.

Let’s dive into it.

1. Blindness Fashion Face Mask

@Blindness_Official for The Met Store Camp Collection. Designers #KyuYongShin and #JiSunPark are the South Korean duo behind the #Blindness label, known for its bold colors, dramatic silhouettes, and lavish embellishments with crystals and pearls. Short-listed for the 2017 LVMH prize, these two visionaries create rule-breaking looks that upend traditional male and female style conventions. An exclusive homage to a fashion accessory popular in Asia, these masks promote the Museum with “Met” spelled out in bold decorative pearls. Exclusively made for The Met Store, find these bold and edgy pieces at the #MetCamp exhibition store or online. #TheMet #TheMetStore #Blindness #Fashion #Exclusive

The designer Blindness created this look, along with a chin mask. It is available in black and pink, and it retails for $63. Next time you board a flight and want to improve your immunity, don this fashion-forward statement.

2. Vaquera Sock Bag

We’ve all been there—you look down at your feet, and realize you’re missing a sock. But if you’re carrying this $155 sock bag, you’ve got a spare that’s ready in a flash. Just remove the loose change first.

3. Marc Jacob’s Marquee T-shirt

Marc Jacobs’ Camp T-shirt is a statement tee that perfectly captures the energy of the event (while also costing $145).

4. Off-White’s Streetwear

From sweatpants to dad caps, this branded collection is sure to sell out.

5. Molly Goddard Bolero

Anyone looking to hit the town on a balmy evening might need this $900 bolero. It’s definitely taking advantage of the neon color trend.

What do you think of the Met Gala merch? If nothing else, the Off-White collection proves that big branding is hot right now.
