Pantone Predicts 12 Colors That Will Be Huge for Spring

September 19, 2017 | Hannah Abrams

Is there anything we love more in the promotional apparel world than a Pantone color announcement? Last year, Pantone announced its top colors for spring 2017 with Kale and Niagara topping the list, which both proved to be hot colors this year. For spring 2018, Pantone revealed a list of 12 color choices, and they are all set to be huge this coming year.

“The desire for colorful self-expression is a key takeaway for Spring 2018,” Pantone said on its website. “The color story is wildly divergent, and we see a kaleidoscopic bounty of uplifting shades and feel-good tones. There is a feeling of optimism and confidence driving a new vitality into fashion trends.”

Pantone also said its color choices represent the disappearance of gender and seasonal borders.

Pantone also released its four picks for the 2018 classic color palette, including Sailor Blue, Harbor Mist, Warm Sand and Coconut Milk. (Yes, you read that right: coconut milk.)

“For many consumers, classic color is the mainstay of the wardrobe and the foundational core upon which they start building their own personal style,” Pantone said on its website. “The core classic shades play a critical role in any wardrobe, and we wanted to highlight the nuance of these classic colors for the spring 2018 season.”

For the most part, this list does not deviate much from the colors we predicted would be big. The fashion world has been forecasting bold reds and yellows, as well as subdued blue shades, would takeover streetwear looks this year. However, the brown Emperador shade is a color we have not heard much of before, so it will be interesting to see if Pantone is right about that one.
